What is an EZ grader?

An EZ grader is a grading calculator that turns the number of questions a student got wrong into a percentage score, so a teacher can mark a pile of tests without working out each score by hand. The name comes from the cardboard slide charts that teachers have long used for the same job. The Classroom Wheels EZ grader takes the number of questions or points on a test, from 1 to 500, and the number wrong, then shows the percentage, the letter grade and how many answers were correct. A full grading chart lists the score for every possible number wrong and can be printed. Teachers can allow half points, round scores to whole numbers or to one or two decimal places, and choose a standard A to F scale, a plus and minus scale or no letter grades. The EZ grader runs in the browser, stores nothing and needs no signup.

How do you use the EZ grader?

  1. Type the number of questions or points on the test. The grading chart for that test appears straight away.
  2. Enter how many answers the student got wrong, or use the − and + buttons. The score and letter grade change as you type.
  3. Open Settings to allow half points, change the rounding or pick a grading scale, then press Print chart to keep a copy beside your marking.

Questions teachers ask

How do I work out a test score as a percentage?

Divide the number correct by the total and multiply by 100. On a 25-question test with 3 wrong, that is 22 ÷ 25 × 100 = 88%. The EZ grader does this for every possible number wrong at once.

Can I grade a test that has half points?

Yes. Turn on Allow half points in Settings. The number wrong then goes up in steps of 0.5, and the chart gets a row for every half point.

How are scores rounded?

Halves round up, so 87.5% becomes 88% when you choose whole numbers. You can also show one or two decimal places. The letter grade always follows the percentage shown.

Which grading scale does it use?

The standard A to F scale gives an A from 90%, a B from 80%, a C from 70% and a D from 60%. The plus and minus scale splits each letter, from A+ at 97% to D- at 60%. Schools vary, so check your own policy, or choose No letter grades.

Can I grade a test marked in points instead of questions?

Yes. Enter the total points instead of the number of questions, and the points lost as the number wrong. A 50-point test with 6 points lost scores 88%.

Can I print the grading chart?

Yes. Press Print chart for a clean page with the chart and the grading scale, without the menus or settings, to keep next to your marking.

Is any student information saved?

No. The EZ grader only uses the two numbers you type. No names are involved, and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
